Jesica Simpson Plus Size Coat Thoughts? [09 Dec 2009|01:04am]

fatshionista

[redhairedapache]
Apparently Macy's doesn't think anyone in SoCal needs a wool coat, but this is an awesome new coat by Jessica Simpson (!!!). Does anyone have any history with it/can try it on and tell how it is? I only ask because there is no size chart and I called Macy's and even they don't know the measurements for it.

Thanks in advance!

Comfortable Heels? [09 Dec 2009|01:54am]

fatshionista

[onebodytolove]
Hey,

I have really been updating my wardrobe this semester, and while I've had some luck with shoes, I don't really have many heels that I can comfortably walk/spend the day in. I have a pair of little booties from payless that have about a 2 inch heel that is rather chunky (though shapely) so I think that it's low enough and thick enough that it gives me more support.

I don't necessarily have very wide feet but my feet are flat, they have no arch at all when I step down so they need a lot of room to expand.

Have any of you lovely shoppers had luck with comfortable heels?

Fingerless gloves [08 Dec 2009|11:39pm]

fatshionista

[fiveforsilver]
The office I work in is ridiculously cold and it's unclear when the heat is going to be fixed, so I'm looking for fingerless gloves (preferably long, like elbow-length) that would be comfortable to type in (and fit my fat arms). I seem to remember someone here (probably) linking to a site with gloves that look like this (only fingerless) and I thought I bookmarked it, but I can't find it now. If anyone knows what site that might be, or has any other suggestions, I would be grateful.

Thanks!!

OOTD - Wedding Day [08 Dec 2009|11:01pm]

fatshionista

[rubynite]

On September 19th I was married to my best friend and I thought I would share some of my favourite wedding shots with the community. As you can probably tell, I went with a 50's vibe and a lot of the elements of the wedding were do it yourself. For example I made my hair piece, and the bridesmaids hair pieces. I also made my veil, did the detailing on the artificial flowers and worked with a dress maker to design my dress.

Sorry, it's a bit picture heavy but I included photos of the front, side and back view of the dress.

Now....to get you started here is my favourite picture of my husband and I!

Gary and I - and my favourite one

Your Model:
About 5'7
Size: 16-20 depending on the fit
Age: 33

Outfit Details:
Dress: design by myself and Liisa from Elusive Butterfly in Hamilton Ontario. She was an absolute dream to work with and made the entire experience one I will always treasure.
Shoes: Pleaser line by Demonia
Hair Piece and veil: Made with my trusty glue gun and supplies from Sussman's in Toronto
Jewelery: Some bridal store on Queen West in Toronto

On to the tea length red crinoline wedding! )

ETA: All wedding photos were taken by Ashlea Wessel of Revolver Photography. She is an amazing friend and a great photographer.

If you are interested in seeing more photos you can check them out in my Wedding Events Collection on flckr. You will also notice an album in there called "Prom Photos" What we did was have our photographer set up in the hallway and take "nice" photos and "monster" photos of anyone who wanted one. They are a lot of fun and some of the photos are hilarious!

Thanks for looking!

OOTDs, and the importance of the right color of slip under a sheer dress. [08 Dec 2009|02:14pm]

fatshionista

[_feckless]
First of all, is anyone else getting those super annoying best buy ads that take over your whole window and won't let you exit them for 5 seconds? So irritating!

Anyhow, awhile back I posted about this AWESOME dress I got from thrush vintage on etsy. The problem was, I could not find a black full slip to wear under it. Cue a fatshionista post about my frustration, where I got the recommendation to try out this slip from Woman Within. I must say even though it is tight across my belly and hips, it does the job and has not fallen apart after repeated wears.

So I went from ok-but-not-awesome looking in the Thrush dress to pretty awesome looking:

Hint: since this pic I have worn the dress with a belt and with a sash, and it looks a little nicer.

OOTD: work style [08 Dec 2009|12:52pm]

fatshionista

[wedged101]
hey fats!
I think about merging my style with work appropriate outfits a lot. Not that I work in a super uptight office, but I am out meeting with potential volunteers, Board members and committee people often. I need clothes that I feel comfortable, sexy and professional in. My work outfits vary a lot, but i thought today's was cute and fit the bill.

Sarasota Boots from Aerosoles [08 Dec 2009|10:10am]

fatshionista

[jessfauve]
Does anyone have the Sarasota boots from Aerosoles? How do they fit in the calf? I'm thinking about getting them in grey. They look like they might work well for a bigger calf, because of the buckles. My calf is about 17"-17.5", I think, for reference.

So that this isn't entirely a request for info, I have these boots from LL Bean in black and I really like them and they fit my calf well. I have a size 10 wide. They're not marked as "extended calf" but in the reviews people said that they ran big in the calf so I figured I'd try them. You can't beat LL Bean for quality & guarantee of their products--they'll accept a return at any time, even years later, for any reason. Also, the customer service chat program was really helpful in telling me the size of the calf before I ordered them so if you wear a different size you can ask if they'll fit before you buy. :)

OOTD - need verdict on shirt [08 Dec 2009|09:49am]

fatshionista

[madlori]
Verdict, please.

I like this shirt a lot but I'm on the fence about how it looks on me. I have a pretty distinctive roll between my boobs and my waist and I feel like this shirt kinda points a big neon sign at it. On the one hand I like how it fits my upper body and sometimes I'm like, you know what? I have a roll. Deal with it, world, I'm gonna wear my sparkly shirt even if it shows off the roll.

Shirt: y/n?

Your model is 5'7" 265 lbs, 22/24 on top and 24/26 on the bottom.

Beneath the cut is a pic of my awesome new wool trenchcoat which I love and today's necklace closeup.

Hello there,

my name is Angela and I`m from the Netherlands. I`ve been lurking for a loooong time now. Really thought I should post some pictures. I find it hard to make full body shots so I just made a few at the bathroom at my job. I work for the dutch traincompany.
These pictures aren`t so great, they`re taking with my phone, and it`s not even one of my best outfits but I really felt I had to put something up now!

Thank you all for sharing your experiences, beauty and amazing outfits, I love to read this community!

OOTD, New Glasses and Jeans Question [08 Dec 2009|03:12am]

fatshionista

[clarawickham]
Hey everyone,

So, this is a more casual OOTD than I usually post. Just something comfortable I threw on to wear to a friends house to play video games. Also, I saw someone post about zenni optical and I loved one of the glasses she bought so I figured I would give it a shot since it was just $8. Also picked up a pair of fun red ones. They're so dorky, I love them. Reminds me of when I was in elementary school. I wanted to give myself a wedgie all day.

My question though is about Jeans. As you can see in the picture, they aren't the most flattering pair in the world. They are super comfortable 24W Levi's, but the cut just isn't doing anything for me. My problem with jeans is that I have thunder thighs and small calf/ankles, so I can never find jeans that fit right both places. Anyone else have this problem? I like the look of skinny jeans on other girls, I'm just afraid they will look funny on my proportions.

I've taken strip tease classes and a private pole dancing classe before and it's ALOT of work, so i respect and envy these lovely ladies that can climb and do tricks on the pole. One day i will... one day...

Anyways, I just thought to share these videos to inspire those who've probably thought about taking a pole dance class but thought they were too fat to do it. These ladies are doing it, so please be inspired!

Black Pebble Tina Slouch Boot From Torrid! [07 Dec 2009|05:41pm]

fatshionista

[tempestreigns]
Hi everyone! I was wondering about the 'Black Pebble Tina Slouch Boot' from Torrid and how it fits- hopefully someone here will have bought it! I really love the boot but I want to make sure that a size 11 will fit me before I go and pay 40 bucks to ship it here, lol. I dont want to have to ship it back-that would suck. So I was wondering if anyone whos bought this boot and finds that it fits well would mind telling me how long and wide their foot is? Mine is pretty wide so I'm a little worried. Also, is it really non-slip? I used to have a pair that were supposed to be but the outer coating wore off and they are soo slippery that I can't wear them anymore. So any problems there so far?

OOTD - Or more like week [07 Dec 2009|05:22pm]

[jewloww]
Hi everyone!
I have been apart of this community now for about a week and I have to say it is amazing. It is just so inspiring.

I am a 26 and I live in Southern California (near LA) with my fiance and 2 dogs. I love fashion, art and nature. I would say my clothing style is boho/LA chic and I love vintage items. I also love showing off my curves and I am not ashamed of what I have got!

Your model is 5'7, size 22/24 on bottoms, tops 2x or 18.

Here is what I wore last week.

Target Merona Premium Patterned Tights [07 Dec 2009|06:23pm]

fatshionista

[adeleno5]
I hit my local Target recently in search of patterned tights. The cutest ones were from their Merona Premium line which do not come in plus sizes. The largest size was M/T which was supposed to fit up to 190 lbs. I am 5ft9 and a solid size 22, so I thought there was no way I could get into these tights. On closer inspection, the weave on them seemed so loose and stretchy that I thought "maybe", and I was willing to risk the $9.

Not only do they fit me, they are kind of awesome.

Winter coat issues. [07 Dec 2009|07:11pm]

fatshionista

[kisha]
So, I need a new winter coat but I'm having a hell of a hard time finding one without a fur hood!
It seems like every coat I like, has fur on the hood. The hood is detachable, but the fur isn't, which sucks.

Where can I find a:

1. Down coat, hip length or a little above the knee.
2. In either black or brown.
3. NO FUR. Or at least fur that is detachable.
4. A detachable hood.
5. Not extremely expensive (preferably under $100).

Thanks!

Boots Question [07 Dec 2009|01:28pm]

fatshionista

[depth_unknown]
Hello, fats! I come with a question. This year I'll be experiencing my first winter north of the Mason-Dixon Line (in NYC) and I'm looking to buy myself some high quality, comfortable, fashionable knee-high boots that will get me through the winter. I prefer flat boots or boots with a very low heel that are walking friendly. I'm definitely looking for something with a much higher quality than your usual Torrid/Lane Bryant/Avenue show. I would LOVE for the boots to be waterproof or water resistant. (Wet feet are for sucker chumps!) I like leather. I wear an 11W in shoes and my calves are about 19" around. Any suggestions? Extra points if the boots are available in a brick & mortar store for me to try on.
